Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI) is a refractive surgical procedure used to correct astigmatism. In this outpatient procedure, incisions are placed at the steepest part of the cornea’s periphery, flattening the area and making the cornea more spherical like a basketball instead of a football. This allows light rays to focus better on the retina thus producing a clearer, sharper image. LRI takes a few minutes to perform and can be used alone or in conjunction with other refractive surgery procedures.
The incisions are made at the periphery
of the cornea to alter the shape and reduce corneal astigmatism.
