The Visumax Femtosecond Laser The Visumax Femtosecond Laser allows doctors to perform a completely bladeless all-laser Femto-LASIK procedure.

Conventional LASIK uses a rotating metal blade (microkeratome) to slice a flap in the cornea. The flap is moved to the side, to allow the excimer laser to reshape the cornea.

In contrast, the Visumax Femtosecond system does not use a blade. Instead, it uses an extremely precise, computer-controlled laser beam to create a corneal flap. This greatly reduces the risk of errors, resulting in a much safer and less invasive procedure than using a microkeratome. Compared to other Femtosecond lasers in the market, the Visumax is very gentle on the eyes, with significantly less patient discomfort. The edges of the flap can also be adjusted to increase flap resistance to accidental injury. The precision of the laser also allows treatment of patients with thin corneas, who cannot be treated with conventional LASIK.
